Trip Summary
Itinerary Description
Day 1: Starting at 7:30 AM, we will lead a 2-hour trip orientation and gear packing session at our Olympic Hiking Co. tour office. Once those backpacks are stuffed full, our group will be shuttled 1 hour 10 minutes from Port Angeles to the Sol Duc Trailhead to begin our trek from the Sol Duc into the Hoh. After a quick visit to Sol Duc Falls at mile 1, our group will hike 6 miles further along the Sol Duc River to reach our Sol Duc Park group campsite on the footsteps of the Seven Lakes Basin.
Day 2: Our group will steadily gain elevation alongside the iconic Seven Lakes Basin with the pinnacle of the day reaching the highest point along the High Divide, which overlooks the Hoh River Valley and Mount Olympus. At this junction, our group will descend back down past Hoh Lake and to our overnight wilderness campsite at CB Flats. Day 2 is our best day to experience Olympic’s stunning subalpine ecosystem.
Day 3: Extend those trekking poles and brace your knees, as Day 3 will feature a steep descent into the Hoh River Valley, eventually reaching the Hoh River Trail junction by Olympus Guard Station. From there, our group will enjoy the return of flat elevation hiking along the moss-laden Hoh River Trail throughout the remainder of the trip. Our final night of wilderness camping will take place at Five Mile Island along the Hoh River. This trail boasts some of the largest old-growth Sitka Spruce, Western Hemlock, and Douglas Fir within Olympic National Park.
Day 4: It’s exit day! A flat 5 miles of trail await our group for an enjoyable, peaceful morning hike as we approach the Hoh Rain Forest Visitor Center. Our shuttle will be ready for our 2 hour drive back into Port Angeles with a lunch stop in Forks to split up the drive. During the drive, we will reminisce on how we conquered some of the most sought-after 26 miles within Olympic National Park. Upon returning to the OHC tour office, the group will do a “backpack explosion” to sort through and return all of the included backpacking gear
