The Position

Olympic Hiking Co. provides guided hiking tours, shuttles, and backpacking trips throughout Olympic National Park. Our team of Naturalist Hiking Guides facilitates small group tours, custom private tours, and step-on guide services daily from April 1 to October 31 each year. To ensure top-quality service and reliable availability for our clients, we employ a small team of part-time guides to help manage our tour schedule during especially busy days. Seattle Tour Guide (Part-Time)

Seasonal: May 1 - October 31, 2025

Location: Seattle, WA

The Position

Olympic Hiking Co. provides guided tours, shuttles, and backpacking trips throughout Olympic National Park. While our tours depart from Port Angeles, the majority of the 4,000 guests are from out of state and traveling from the Seattle area. In order to make our tours as accessible as possible, we have created a Seattle to Olympic National Park Day Trip package to provide guests a turnkey experience to travel from Seattle to Port Angeles in order to join our afternoon guided tour of Olympic National Park. To enrich this day trip experience and make it as stress-free as possible, we are hiring a Seattle-based Tour Guide to facilitate our Seattle logistics and tour launch. This will include properly welcoming our Seattle guests, guiding them onto the 8:45 AM Seattle-Bainbridge Ferry, giving a brief interpretive tour of Seattle and Puget Sound during the ferry crossing, an optional Bainbridge Island walking tour, and then ushering our guests onto the 10:20 AM Strait Shot Bus for a direct route to Port Angeles, where our team will greet them upon their arrival.

What to Expect

Based on the applicants, we aim to hire 1-2 Seattle Tour Guides to operate an 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM shift Monday-Thursdays. Shifts will begin and end remotely at the Seattle Ferry Terminal. Our Seattle Tour Guide will receive daily instructions from our Port Angeles Operations Team. For qualified applicants, there may be opportunities to lead guided hiking tours in Olympic, Mount Rainier, and the North Cascades for guests traveling from Seattle.

Seasonal: May 1 - September 30, 2025

Locations: Port Angeles, WA, Mount Vernon, WA, or Bellingham, WA

The Position

Olympic Hiking Co. provides guided day tours, shuttles, and backpacking trips throughout Olympic National Park, serving over 4,000 hikers annually. In 2024, we expanded into the North Cascades through our Hike Cascades division, offering our first hiking tours and backpacking trips. We are expanding our backcountry guiding team to lead backpacking trips in both Olympic and the North Cascades. This summer, we plan to offer eight group backpacking trips and accept private trips upon request. Qualified candidates may also lead lodge-based hiking tours or guided day tours based out of Port Angeles and Mount Vernon. Backpacking trips often involve 40+ hour workweeks, but are scheduled on an ad-hoc basis, resulting in a monthly workload typical of part-time hours.

What to Expect

Once assigned to a backpacking trip, guides participate in a pre-trip Zoom call with the Operations Team and may join an optional client call. A packing session is scheduled the day before the trip, typically from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Guides are expected to be available from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM for this preparation day. In the field, guides lead up to 8 clients individually or 10 with a co-guide. Trips range from 3-day, 2-night outings to 5-day, 4-night expeditions, with itineraries varying from beginner-friendly routes to challenging journeys covering 10+ miles with significant elevation changes in a day. Guides assist with water filtration, boiling water, camp setup, navigation, and maintaining a suitable pace. After the trip, guides assist with a “gear explosion” to ensure proper return and condition of gear and submit a detailed trip report via email the next day.

Trailhead Shuttle Driver (Part-Time)

Seasonal: March 14 - October 31, 2025

Locations: Port Angeles, WA

This is a part-time position with assignments scheduled in advance on an ad-hoc basis based on the weekly activity schedule.

What to Expect

Our Trailhead Shuttle service is considered to be the “ski-lift on wheels” for backpackers, as our drivers provide a valuable point-to-point service for through-hikers in Olympic National Park. Additionally, our drivers assist with various shuttles for day hikers, bicyclists, and other travelers throughout the Olympic Peninsula. Our drivers provide their availability, and our Operations Team schedules assignments on a weekly basis according to bookings. Port Angeles-based drivers typically focus on custom shuttle bookings with routes, start times, and end times that vary daily. Shifts usually range from 6 to 8 hours; however, during busy periods, shifts can last up to 12 hours and involve driving up to 350 miles.
