A growing sandy shoreline at the mouth of the Elwha

Since the removal of the Elwha Dam in 2012, sediment has been released back into the Elwha River, which has expanded the Elwha Beach shoreline into a massive sandy spit. The end result? A massive sandy beach with space to fly kites, throw the frisbee, you name it. And of course, you'll still find kayakers, surfers, and paddle boarders out on the surf.

Quick Facts:

  • Location: Place Road (off of Highway 112) - 10 miles West of Port Angeles

  • Google Maps

The Clallam County Marine Resources Committee (MRC) and the Olympic Peninsula Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation sponsor two Sanikans and three dog waste bins at the trailhead. In addition, the MRC sponsors and maintains a dog waste bag dispenser. There are no trash receptacles at the trailhead.
